A common suggestion from NACSW members has been to offer additional opportunities for earning continuing education credits, which in many states and provinces are becoming more important as a condition for maintaining one's social work license, certification, or accreditation. In response to this input, we're pleased to announce that through an agreement with JournaLearning International, NACSW is now able to offer members of NACSW continuing education credits for reading and answering questions related to the articles in our journal, Social Work and Christianity. This newest NACSW service, which we call NACSW's Home Study Program, was launched with our Fall, 1999 issue of SWC. You might be familiar with similar home study programs affiliated with other journals or organizations. JournaLearning International, for instance, also coordinates a home study program for readers of The Family Therapy Networker. Basically, participants in NACSW's home study program are asked to answer a series of multiple choice questions based on the articles in a given issue of Social Work and Christianity. You will find this quiz as well as additional details regarding participation on the last couple of pages of each issue of Social Work and Christianity starting with the Fall, 1999 issue. JournaLearning charges each participant $25 for her involvement in the process (which includes developing the questions and then grading participants' responses). It is important to note that for JournaLearning to keep their fees as low as possible, there will need to average about 50 participants per issue of SWC. So to a large degree, NACSW’s ability to continue offering this service will depend upon the number of individuals who choose to participate in this program over time. Based on a field study conducted by NACSW and JournaLearning, we are currently able to offer 2 continuing education credits for each issue of SWC. One other important note: NACSW and JournaLearning International designed this home study program to meet the requirements for Continuing Education Credit for the Social Work Boards of the states of California and Florida, as well as the APA. Many states and provinces (but not all) will accept home study programs approved by the APA and California and Florida Boards. Please check the local rules in your home state or province.
NACSW hopes that you find this service a valuable addition to NACSW's growing
array of benefits for Christians in social work. I'd be glad to hear any thoughts or
comments you have about NACSW’s Home Study Program!
