NACSW’s April 26th Audio Conference on Developing a Spiritual Assessment Toolbox

NACSW is delighted to announce that it will offering its next audio conference workshop on April 26th, 2004 entitled “Developing a Spiritual Assessment Toolbox: Understanding the Strengths and Limitations of Various Spiritual Assessment Instruments” from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm Eastern Standard Time.

This audio conference, presented by David Hodge, Ph. D., will review reviews five complementary assessment instruments that have recently been developed. A brief overview of each instrument will be provided along with an analysis of its strengths and limitations. The aim of this audio conference is to familiarize participants with a repertoire of spiritual assessment tools so that the most appropriate assessment instrument in a given client/practitioner setting can be selected. By developing an assessment “toolbox,” containing different spiritual assessment tools, practitioners are better equipped to provide services that address the individual needs of each client.

David R. Hodge is a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Center for Research on Religion and Urban Civil Society (CRRUCS) at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Hodge’s research focuses on a number of areas, including the relationship between spirituality and mental health, substance use and abuse, and the provision of culturally competent services to people of faith. Recent journal publications have appeared in Social Work, Social Work Research, Families in Society, Arete, and the Journal of Marriage and Family Therapy. A book chapter on the provision of culturally competent services to Muslims is contained in the 10th edition of Social Work: A Profession of Many Faces. NACSW has recently published David’s book on spiritual assessment, entitled: Spiritual Assessment: Handbook for Helping Professionals.
