HAND IN HAND 2005 CONFERENCE

NACSW will be co-sponsoring a two-day conference with the Baylor School of Social Work on March 4-5, 2005 in Dallas, Texas on the theme, “Building Strong Communities for Children and Families.” This 6th annual Hand in Hand conference will focus on the following question: how can the church – including both congregations and faith-based organizations—build healthy communities to support families as they raise strong and resilient children? This conference will explore the ways congregations can be a strong network of support for families and children.

Featured speakers at this year’s Hand in Hand conference will include some of the following:

·        Dr. Peter Benson, the President of Search Institute and national leader in the development of research and practice models for building healthy communities for children

·        Rev. Dr. Eileen Lindner, Deputy General Secretary of the National Council of Church of Christ in the USA and national leader in child advocacy

·        Sr. Dr. Linda Yankoski, President of Holy Family Institute in Pittsburgh and national leader conducting research on the impact of government monies on the religious identity and mission of organizations

There will also be multiple workshops exploring the practical issues of providing professional services and community caring for vulnerable children and families.

In addition, Diana Garland and Bo Prosser, coordinator for congregational resources at Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, will host a special one day workshop as a pre-conference event on March 3rd, “Developing Family Ministry in Your Congregation.” Cost of this “nitty-gritty” workshop is $50, which covers the cost of materials, lunch, and copies of books by Garland and Prosser. You can register for this pre-conference workshop by calling Nina Allen at 1-877-710-1159.
